Welcome to Luang Prabang

Upon your arrival at Luang Prabang, you will be picked up and transferred to your hotel. A welcome dinner is arranged for the evening

Luang Prabang – City Tour & Pak Ou Caves

Today we will have an early start so that we have the fantastic opportunity to witness the daily morning rituals of the Alms ceremony of the monks. 

Then after breakfast we will begin the city tours visiting the National Museum, Wat Visoun, the holiest temple of the city, continuing past Wat Aham, to visit the magnificent Wat Xiengthong representing classical Laotian architecture. We then board a cruise upstream on the Mekong River, which also gives us stunning views of the mysterious of Pak Ou Caves, two linked caves crammed with thousands of gold lacquered Buddha statues of various shapes and sizes left by pilgrims. Along the way, we will make a stop at Ban Xang Hai village where rice wine is distilled. We will visit the caves of Tham Ting and Tham Phoum which house hundreds of Buddha statues. We return to LuangPrabang in the afternoon, and visit Ban XangKhong, a village well known for silk hand-weaving and traditional Saa paper-making. 

Luang Prabang – Kuangsi Water Falls and Cooking Class

After breakfast we will visit local villages of Lao ethnic minority groups at Ban Ouay, a Hmong village, Ban Ou a Laoloum village and Ban Thapene, Khmu villages.  This then takes us to the beautiful Khuang Si Waterfall where you can cool off with a refreshing swim in the pools or walk along the forest trails. We then return to Luang Prabang for climb up 328 steps of Mount Phousi for an enjoyable exploration of the sacred, gilded stupa as well as a beautiful sunset view of the city and the Mekong River. 

Late afternoon/evening we will participate in a local cooking class set in beautiful tranquil surroundings and learn about local Laos cuisine and of course feast on it afterwards. Maybe a nice walk through the night market will be the perfect end to the day.

Free time in Luang Prabang

Breakfast at hotel and today you will have a free day where you can take part in optional activities such as taking a trip to the Elephant Sanctuary to visit rescued elephants or Visit the Buffalo farm which is a worthy local enterprise.

 

Travel from Luang Prabang to Vang Vieng

After breakfast we drive to Vang Vieng.  In the afternoon we will drive to visit Tham Jang Cave and also drive to visit Golden crab cave (Tham Phoukham (blue Lagoon) and if we have time we trek to the top of the mountain for looking over the view of Vang Vieng City

Free time in Vang Vieng

After breakfast at the hotel, you will have free time in the Adventure capital of Laos. There are lots of optional activities such as quad biking, a river cruise, cycling through the countryside or exploring the local caves.

Tonight there will be an opportunity to try delicious street food at the night market.

Travel from Vang Vieng to Vientiane via Namg Ngum Lake

After breakfast at the hotel we start our drive to Vientiane and stop enroute for a stunning boat ride on Nam Ngum Lake to the islands and after having lunch we will continue on to Vientiane. We will head out this evening to the river area for to take in the atmosphere and also have some delicious local food.

Vientiane – City Tour & Buddha Park

After breakfast we will we will visit the major sights of the capital; including the oldest Wat Sisaket, the temple with thousands of miniature Buddha statues and the former royal temple of Wat Prakeo, which previously housed the famous Emerald Buddha Image. On the way to Lao’s national precious heritage, the famous and sacred structure of That Luang Stupa, we stop enroute to take some pictures of the imposing Patuxay Monument, which is well known as Vientiane’s own Arc de Triumph. 

In the afternoon we transfer out to see the Buddha Park, a scattered enchanting collection of Buddhist and Hindu sculptures on the Mekong Riverside meadow, close to the Friendship Bridge. There are approximately 200 religious images dating back over 500 years, which were created by a mysterious monk spreading his philosophy on life and revealing his ideas about the universe. A spectacular view of over the Mekong River at sunset is a perfect way to finish the day.  

 

 

Vientiane – Bid a fond farewell to Laos

Breakfast at hotel and airport transfer for your flight back home.

British passport holders require a valid visa for Laos and this can be obtained as an e-visa or on arrival. However if you are joining the trip from any other country, check with your local Embassy.

Travel Insurance

Travel Insurance is mandatory for all our trips and should include Covid cover for trip cancellation. It must also cover you for any activities that you book that are not included in the itinerary.

  • Clothing- We recommend packing light and breathable clothing, a light rain jacket as well as a sweater for the evenings

  • Medication – If you are carrying prescribed medication, you will need to carry a doctor’s note with you to verify this.

  • CURRENCY- The local currency in Laos is the Lao Kip (LAK). US dollars are widely accepted in larger cities, but it’s best to have some LAK on hand for smaller purchases and tips. ATMs are widely available in major cities and towns, but it’s best to have cash on hand for smaller purchases.
